Corn Moquino black seed pot with carved scorpion design. Decorated with a turquoise stone and red beads. Signed on the bottom "Corn Moquino" with his cornstalk emblem. Corn Moquino (1929-2016) is of Zia and Hopi heritage.
He married into Santa Clara Pueblo and started making Santa Clara style pottery circa 1963. He was one of the earlier potters to employ Sgraffito style carving.
Corn Moquino is the son of Benina Moquino; husband of Christine Herrera; brother of Willie Moquino, Bod Moquino, Reyes Homer and Ester Talles; father of James, Christopher, Mark, Marvin, Melvin, Martin, Berncie, Matthew and Michael Moquino.
