Pam Lujan-Hauer of Taos Pueblo learned the art of traditional pottery from her great aunts Josephine Ortiz and Anita Lujan, both highly regarded Pueblo potters. Later, she studied pottery-making at the Institute of American Indian Arts.

Today she is known for traditional and contemporary clay pottery, coil-built from clays and natural pigment materials which she collects and processes herself. Much of her pottery is made from Taos micaceous clay, which contains mica chips and is native to northern New Mexico. All of her works are pit or kiln-fired.
